Ventura County FC took on St. Louis City 2 for the second time this season, this time away, ending in a 2-1 loss.

Several VCFC players were unavailable for this match, including Julian Placias, Troy Elgersma, and Sebastian Conlon. Placias and Elgersma signed short-term contracts with the LA Galaxy for their match against Real Salt Lake on the same day. Conlon’s absence meant Brady Scott would fill in.

Scott was called into action within the first 20 minutes. A St. Louis cross found Cooper Forcellini in the box who headed it down towards goal. Scott kicked out his right foot to deny a sure goal.

St. Louis opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a goal from Jemone Barclay on his left foot. The majority of the chances in the first half were in favor of the home side.

HALFTIME: VCFC 0 – STL 1

Just 10 minutes into the second half, St. Louis doubled their lead off a corner kick play that Riley Lynch finished with a bottom corner finish.

VCFC got on the board just 5 minutes later thanks to Dylan Vanney. Gabriel Arnold played a clever line-breaking pass to Vanney who timed his run just right. Vanney rounded the goalkeeper and tucked it home for his 5th goal of the season. This was Gabriel Arnold’s first assist of the season.

VCFC pressed hard for the rest of the half in search of an equalizer but to no avail.

FINAL SCORE: VCFC 1 – STL 2
