For the first time at William Rolland Stadium, Ventura County FC claimed all 3 points in the SoCal Clásico, defeating LAFC2 by a scoreline of 2-0.

VCFC opened up the scoring in the 25th minute. Vinny Garcia crossed an inswinging ball to the LAFC2 box, flicked on by the head of Sebastian Hernandez. The ball fell to Julian Placias at the far left post. Placias and the LAFC2 backline battled for the loose ball, but Placias ultimately got the last touch to poke home the opening goal. This was Placias’ 7th goal of the season, tied for most in the team along with Dylan Vanney.

Just 5 minutes later, VCFC struck again. After picking off a pass from the LAFC2 backline, Eric Preston darted forward and found Placias on the right flank. Placias squared it back to Preston who was continuing his run into the box. Preston’s initial shot was blocked and tucked home the rebound on the open goal. This was Preston’s 3rd goal of the season.

LAFC2 couldn’t find an answer in the first half. The closest the visitors came to a goal was in the 41st minute from Liam Lambert whose close range header went over the crossbar.

HALFTIME: VCFC 2 – LAFC 0

VCFC’s fortunes took a turn for the worse in the 62nd minute. Jose “Pepe” Magaña Jr. was issued a straight red card following an altercation with LAFC2 forward Ernesto Rodriguez. VCFC remained defensively minded for the rest of the match and held LAFC2 scoreless to secure the victory.
