It took a penalty shootout to separate Ventura County FC and Portland Timbers 2 at Providence Park on Sunday night, with VCFC taking the extra point.

VCFC nearly had a disastrous start to the match when Portland striker Daniel Cervantes pounced on a back pass from the VCFC backline. Sebastian Conlon made a crucial save to let his center back off the hook.

Conlon had a game and a half against Portland. The University of Kentucky alumni made a total of 7 saves to keep it a scoreless match. VCFC managed to get just 1 shot on target in regulation time.

With the score ending in a 0-0 tie, a penalty shootout decided who would take the extra point. Conlon again was crucial for VCFC, not just making the winning save but also scoring a penalty of his own.
