Ventura County FC came home with 2 points in a clash against Portland Timbers 2.

Portland opened up the scoring in the 5th minute through Charles Ondo. Ondo got on the end of a Portland free kick, beating Brady Scott with a header to the far post.

VCFC remained undeterred. In the 19th minute, the 805 side equalized, thanks to Vicente Garcia. The 15 year old winger collected on the right flank before hitting a stunning curler to the far post for his first professional goal and his first goal for VCFC.

With the first half winding down, it seemed that both teams would be heading to the locker rooms with the score level. VCFC had other plans. Eric Preston collected the ball at the halfway line before making a solo run down the left flank. Preston’s cross found Mason Vanney, who smashed it from just inside the box for his first professional goal.

HALFTIME: VCFC 2 – POR 1

The goals kept coming for both sides in the second half. In the 57th minute, Eric Preston again caused havoc for the Portland backline. Following a Portland corner kick, the loose ball fell to Garcia who spotted Preston behind the defense completely alone. Preston sprinted towards goal and touched it past the goalkeeper for his first professional goal.

Portland was down, but not quite out. In the 67th minute, Portland scored another header to make it a one goal game, courtesy of their center back Nicklas Lund. In the 72nd minute, Daniel Cervantes capitalized on a mistake from the VCFC backline to make it 3-3.

The scoreline remained 3-3 until the final whistle. For the second time between these two sides, it went to a penalty shootout. Brady Scott made the winning save in the 7th round of the shootout to secure the second point.
