Ventura County FC heads to Dick Sporting Goods Park for a rematch with Colorado Rapids 2 on August 28th at 5:00 PM, PST. The game will be streamed on OneFootball and MLSNextPro.com.
Bump in the Road
VCFC had to settle for a point in a shootout loss at home against Portland Timbers 2 on Sunday, August 23rd. Despite dropping points, VCFC remains in the top 4 of the West. A win against Colorado could be crucial in the quest for securing a top 4 spot.
Sunday’s game marked the third game VCFC and Portland played each other this season, as well as the third game they’ve both gone to penalties. VCFC won the other two penalty shootout, but just came up short this time around.
Eric Preston had a game to remember, scoring a brace and putting him at 8 goals on the season, the second most on the squad. Julian Placias got his 8th assist on the season for Preston’s first goal, while Gabriel Arnold got his 3rd assist for Preston’s second.
Despite the shootout loss, VCFC’s frontline has been a force to be reckoned with. In their past five matches, they’ve managed to outscore their opponents 15-5. Against Colorado, they’ll be looking to continue their fine goalscoring form.
VCFC currently sits at 4th in the West with 42 points and a record of 11 wins, 6 losses, and 6 draws.
About the Opponent
Colorado has struggled for wins this season, currently sitting last in the West and eliminated from playoff contention. However, they have picked up 6 points in their past three games.
Most recently, Colorado defeated Real Monarchs 4-1 at home on August 23rd. Four different players scored for Colorado to secure the victory: forward Chris Aquino, forward Sydney Wathuta, midfielder Jonathan de la Fuente, and midfielder Josh Copeland.
Colorado currently sits at 14th in the West with 18 points and a record of 3 wins, 14 losses, and 7 draws.
History
VCFC hosted Colorado earlier this season on June 13th. VCFC had a strong and early start, with Julian Placias scoring in the 8th minute. Ironically, it was a late, stoppage time goal from Colorado that forced a penalty shootout. Colorado took home the extra point.
