Ventura County FC hosted Whitecaps FC II for the second time this season, pulling off a 2-1 win at William Rolland Stadium on Saturday.

Goals remained scarce for the majority of the first half. VCFC came close in the 22nd minute when Dylan Vanney struck a low driven ball to the left corner. Whitecaps goalkeeper Sam Rogers got a hand to it to deny Vanney his 7th of the season.

VCFC got their goal in the 36th minute. Eric Preston skipped past his man, dribbling with intensity down the left flank. Preston crossed it into the box to Julian Placias, who controlled it and laid it off to Issak Luna. Luna smashed it home for his second goal of the season.

HALFTIME: VCFC 1 – VAN 0

Sebastian Conlon was called into action in the 68th minute for VCFC. Whitecaps forward Yeider Zuluaga tried curling on to the far right corner from just outside the box. Conlon made a stunning acrobatic save to keep his side in front.

VCFC doubled their lead in the 71st minute from an Eric Preston goal. Luna carried the ball through the midfield, finding Dylan Vanney on the right side of the 18. Vanney’s low driven cross couldn’t be cleared by the Whitecaps backline. A scramble ensued yards away from the goal before it fell to Preston who tapped it home for his second of the season.

VCFC’s two goal lead was short lived as the Whitecaps responded 4 minutes later. Whitecaps forward Tyler Brown got a shot off from inside the 18, deflecting off a VCFC defender and past Conlon.

The Whitecaps goal proved to be too little too late as VCFC held on to secure the victory.
